Mount Rainier Round Trip - Part Three:

At the Paradise Inn Lodge and down again

The amount of snow here is impressive. Avarage snowfall is about 680 inches each winter the brochure says. This should according to my calculator correspond to 17,3 meters.

The brochure also says that this is the most heavily visited area in the park (we have no problems imagining that) and that in the the summer parking can be difficult (no problem imagining that either).

...but we had no problems finding a space for the car...

...pretty close to the Paradise Inn.

Inside the lodge the reception hall was impressive. The construction must be rigid to withstand the pressure of snow covering most of the building during winter.

The dining hall...

...where we had our lunch. They just opened the restaurant for the summer the week before.

After lunch we took a closer look at the interior. This clock and fireplace illustrates well the Norwegian saying that "everything is much bigger in America".

The rear side of the lodge where the snow is still deep.

This was as far as we got.

On our way down the westward road. The distance from Paradise to the south west gate is 18 miles or 30 kilometers.

Leaving the park at the Nisqually Entrance.
